Q. What is flooded suction and suction lift?

A. Flooded suction is when the chemical level is higher than the suction side of the pump. The chemical will flood the suction line and will keep the pump primed. This however is not a practical set up in all situations.

Suction lift is when the pump's suction side is above the chemical level, such as sitting on top of a drum. Pumps in this condition have a limit to the distance they are able to lift, if that distance is exceeded the pump will not be able to lift the chemical and will lose prime. Also when using a diaphragm pump in this way with an off gassing chemical, like Chlorine, fumes can build up in the head and cause the pump to lose prime, this can be fixed by using special degassing heads.

Q. Why does my pump keep losing prime?

A. A pump can lose prime for many reasons. It may have worn parts that no longer allow the pump to work correctly, it could be an application issue such as the set up or chemical being used. Please Contact Us and our technical depart will discuss the situation and help you find a solution.

Q. How do I know what pump output I should select?

A. Use the following formula:

This will give you an approximate output rate you will need for your pump. It is a good idea to select a pump with a greater flow rate than you need since you can turn the output down but not up past it's maximum. You must also consider the pressure of the line the pump will be injecting chemical into, the pressure of you application should not exceed the maximum pressure rating of the pump.

Q. Are there rebuild/ maintenance kits for LMI pumps?

A. Yes, all LMI pumps have rebuild/ maintenance kits.

Q. How often should a rebuild/ maintenance kit be installed on an LMI pump?

A. LMI recommends a kit be installed at least once a year. However, depending on the application this may need to be done more often. It is recommended to have a preventative maintenance schedule to install these kits before issue from worn parts occurs, this will extend the life of your pump.

Q. What comes in a rebuild/ maintenance kit?

A. These kits include all wetted wearable parts, such as diaphragm, check valves, o-rings, and seals. It does not include tubing or valve housings.

pH and ORP Control

Q. How should I store my pH probe?

A. All pH probe should be kept in a storage solution so the do not dry out and stop functioning. We sell a specific electrode storage solution that is best for maximizing the life of a probe, to order a bottle click here. If you do not have storage solution then you can use, in this order of preference, 4 pH buffer, 7 pH buffer, or tap water with salt in it. These should be used in a pinch and only temporarily until you get storage solution. DO NOT use DI water, DI water leeches ions from the probe and shortens its life span.

Q. How long can I run my pH electrode cable?

A. All pH electrodes provide a high impedance millivolt signal. Normally, cable runs under 25 feet are not a problem for the millivolt pH signal. To run the pH signal farther than 25 feet you will need to use a pre-amp to ensure a strong signal that travels farther.
